Kickstarting with coffee

Another trip, and yet another adventure. And as our first travel day kickstarts with an espresso we consider our plan, which, this year, is to wander through some of the countries that offer the best espresso in Europe -- Netherlands and Denmark, ending up with two months on the granite coast in  France.

We are on board the Stena at the moment. This is a very glossy ferry with free WIFI and staff falling over themselves to please as there is hardly a soul on board. We were able to drive our motorhome on without even forming a queue, and on the bottom floor where we are parked there are barely a dozen other vehicles in transit. There are so many bars open on board with no one using them.

Where have all the travellers gone?  Frozen back in the UK, mayhap. Here we are the first week in May and we have seen frost on the morning fields, trees bare of their spring bloom, and Bec has on six layers for warmth.

So, it feels cold for this time of the year.  Thus we are keeping our plans flexible. If it all looks too icy up north, we just might head south and defrost our toes.

But first we are heading directly to Den Haag, to explore how one tiny little country, The Netherlands, keeps itself afloat, in more ways than one. We will be looking at dikes, dunes, man-made barriers, and other fascinating structures that man has fashioned to keep himself dry.
